Nominated for an NAACP Image Award! Named one of The LA Times Best Books of 2015! "In these extraordinary tales, American Book Award-winner Due (My Soul to Take) uses a clear-eyed view of history to explain (but never excuse) the present." - Publishers Weekly (Starred) Stephen King says, "Ms. Due accomplishes the hardest thing of all with deceptive ease, creating characters we care about on their most human level." Whether weaving family life and history into dark fiction or writing speculative Afrofuturism, American Book Award winner and Essence bestselling author Tananarive Due's work is both riveting and enlightening. In her debut collection of short fiction, Due takes us to Gracetown, a small Florida town that has both literal and figurative ghost; into future scenarios that seem all too real; and provides empathetic portraits of those whose lives are touched by Otherness. Featuring an award-winning novella and fifteen stories-one of which has never been published before-GHOST SUMMER: STORIES, is sure to both haunt and delight. The title novella, Ghost Summer, won a Kindred Award from the Carl Brandon Society (originally published in The Ancestors). This collection includes Patient Zero, The Lake, The Knowing, Herd Immunity, and many other stories. With an Introduction by Nalo Hopkinson and an Afterword by Steven Barnes.

I started this book at the end of 2015 when it was first published and it has taken me a minute to finish but I'm so glad I did. The thing with Tananarive Due's work is that it has meat and substance. I can read a few paragraphs and get lost in the language, characterization, and subtlety of her writing. This book of short fiction is like a Michelin Star gourmet meal served course by course each dish more delicious and intriguing and beguiling than the last. Enjoy it!

This is a beautiful collection of stories. That might seem like an odd description for horror stories but it is exactly right. The world in each one is lush and vivid. The horror rises up from within as though it has been there all along waiting for the storyteller to come along and reveal it. I'll be reading all the Tananarive Due books now!

This is the first book by Tananarive Due that I have read. She did not disappoint me. I love this genre and was excited to find books written by a black female author. I am definitely a fan and selected this book for our book club to read. I realize that not everyone shares my love for fiction/horror, but I thought my fellow book club members would find it interesting! Can't wait to lead the discussion when we meet next month.

Due has an incredible ability to make the horrific and fantastic real. The reader lives these pages of the uncanny along with the protagonists trying so desperately, so pathetically, to escape. Perhaps these stories should come with a warning such as, "Pause after each one to reflect before you take the plunge again."

I was so excited when I heard about this collection. Ghost Summer lived up to my expectations. All the stories are amazing, but "Removal Order" is just incredible. I'm a huge fan of paranormal/sci-fi/supernatural/horror, and this book fed my appetite.

Outstanding stories, I sat down to read 1-2 and ended up reading 2/3 of the book. Highly recommended homegrown American horror.

Tananarive Due is a fantastic horror writer, but what really surprised me was how many of these stories made me cry. Her stories always have such depth.

This is a great book, Ghost summer got me through the summer. Could not put it down, full of surprises and suspense- love how all the characters are so well developed that I can see them in front of me as I read, my favorite "Summer", or is it Patient Zero, Ghost Summer? The whole book is GREAT!!!!!! Love Love Love, Thank you, Ms. Tananarive Due Thank you-Peace
